Duties & Responsibilities 1. Facilitate classroom instruction: a. Prepares, presents, and evaluates course materials related to the instructional strategies which are based on the course learning objectives b. Provides adequate feedback/explanation of graded coursework and other student information in an accurate and timely manner c. Ensures a positive and favorable learning environment in the classroom, labs, and campus d. Responsible for classroom and lab equipment, maintenance, and supplies 2. Lead the development, assessment, and evaluation of curriculum: a. Completes assessment and evaluation of existing courses and program curriculum; revises course materials and activities as needed for improvement. b. Develops new courses including the assessment, evaluation, course syllabi, selecting appropriate text and ancillary materials c. Attends statewide articulation and transfer meetings and/or remains abreast of transfer and articulation policy; make curricular recommendations and changes based on statewide transfer and articulation policies. d. Provides leadership to adjunct faculty and student workers 3. Participates in student advisement a. Arranges and maintains suitable office hours for student advising and academic assistance b. Provides academic advising and counseling to students assisting with course selection and academic requirements 4. Facilitates cooperative relationships with outside agencies, including: a. Colleges and universities b. High schools c. Career Centers/Tech Prep/dual enrollments d. Community and Professional associations 5. Attends and participates in department, faculty meetings, and college committees and other scheduled meetings/activities at which attendance is expected 6. Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner and follows established college policies and procedures 7. Engages in professional development activities to maintain and enhance course content and instructional skills.
Requirements Hold a minimum of a master’s degree in English, preferably in rhetoric/composition; specialization in reading or teaching reading is required.  Teaching experience preferred.  Experience with accelerated course delivery models preferred.  Knowledge of online learning management systems preferred.

Developmental education is a field of research, policy, and practice focused on student success at the postsecondary level. The field aims to understand and support all students in postsecondary contexts, but especially students who struggle and students who are identified as academically underprepared. The Graduate Program of Developmental Education is housed within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education. This innovative and rapidly growing program offers Ph.D., Ed.D., and M.A. degrees in developmental education with three specialization areas: literacy, learning support, and mathematics. The search committee is looking for a candidate with the expertise and ability to serve in the literacy specialization area. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply, and especially those who are linguistically or culturally diverse, or who can contribute diverse perspectives to our program and university. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Publishing peer-reviewed research at national and international levels in the areas of literacy and developmental education. • Seeking external funding related to literacy and developmental education. • Presenting on research and practice at local, national, and/or international conferences. • Teaching doctoral- and master’s-level courses. Course topics include but are not limited to: literacy theory, research, and pedagogy with a focus on postsecondary contexts. • Serving on thesis and dissertation committees. • Recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students. • Working collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff. • Engaging in service at the departmental, college, university, and professional levels. Qualifications for Associate Professor Rank Required: • Earned doctorate, by hiring date, in education, literacy education, developmental education, or a related area. • Evidence of teaching literacy (reading and/or writing) at the postsecondary level and/or evidence of scholarly activity with a focus on postsecondary contexts commensurate with rank. • Demonstration of excellence in teaching at the university level. • Evidence of the ability to establish and sustain a strong research agenda as evidenced by publications, presentations, grants, etc. commensurate with rank. • To be eligible for hire at the associate professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the department. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on University and department established standards.
